I went outside! Alyson and Carley helped me down the stairs; sat in the sun and felt as victorious about the descent as I feared the climb back up the stairs.
They returned from Assisi; Corinne found me crutches and I made it all the way to dinner. Not Ana's name is Fabiola, I learned, and then they told me about St. Francis's hermitage on the mountain. Apparently not everyone had a glorious experience- some found it dull and some were really knocked back to misery. Reckoning is part of the pilgrimage experience, I think, and it is often very painful, but it should encourage you to press forward.
I am eager to get back to the city.
